Did the British General Edward Braddock Bury Gold in Fairfax County, Virginia?

Background:

In 1954, The Historical Society of Fairfax County, Inc. published Volume 3 (now out of print) of their biennial journals. That volume contained an article by Charles J. Gilliss entitled A Buried Treasure, which explored the possibility of Gen. Braddock having gold buried at Newgate (now Centreville) in 1755.

In 1982, Douglas Phillips and Barnaby Nygren co-authored an essay, An Inquiry into the Validity of the Legend of Braddock's Gold in Northern Virginia. It was much more in-depth and referenced to the Gilliss article.

This site now exclusively offers both of these works as PDF documents.
